Hello LIX Chicks,

I am SO over this bloody winter.  Enough already...I could just scream!   To make matters worse our daughter, Ana, has chicken pox so Lucy and I have been cooped up in a cesspool of virus since last week.  Ana is looking decidedly better today...if hundreds of scabby sores can look better...so I think we're near the end.

I missed last week's LIX networking meeting so, in order to give you the scoop, I'll be summarizing from the notes that roving reporter, Lucy, brought home for me.  The evening began with one-minute introductions which were, apparently, great!  With a little initial direction, women talked about themselves and got past the "I'm Agnes and I'm just here to socialize" rut.  The new enthusiasm, predictably, made for much more interesting socializing later in the evening.

Two LIX Chicks presented five-minute infomercials this month.  First up was Allana Macintosh who is a Grief Recovery Specialist.  Allana's been passionate about the benefits of dealing with grief & loss since she did her own 'work' in her 30's.  She believes strongly that grief is not just about feeling the pain associated with the death of a loved one.  Grief work includes all kinds of losses...from sickness to career change to moving one's home.  Allana talked about the importance of doing grief work when the loss occurs; rather than letting the losses build up over time when they can have negative repercussions on our health and well-being.  A number of women shared personal experiences of loss during the discussion after Allana's presentation.  Clearly, loss touches people deeply and grief work is a powerful tool for the expression and exploration of our loss experiences.  Allana can be reached at (613) 740-0223.

Next up was Karen Molson, co-owner of Paradise Found Lectures.  Karen talked about her latest project, 'Love of the Labyrinth' which will be presented at Centrepointe Theatre on Thursday, March 27th.  Similar to the 'Vita, Virginia & Sissinghurst' lecture that Karen's company presented last year at the National Gallery Auditorium, 'Love of the Labyrinth' will also feature gorgeous visuals projected onto a huge screen during the lecture.  Karen gave a brief history of labyrinths and pointed out how they have often been very 'female' in their symbolism.  This particular lecture is the last that Paradise Found Lectures will be presenting in the live lecture format so don't miss it!  'Love of the Labyrinth' will be presented at 7:00 pm. on March 27th. Tickets are $50 + GST and are available at Centrepointe by calling (613) 580-2700 or on-line at www.centrepointetheatre.com.  For more information about Paradise Found, go to www.paradisefoundlectures.ca.

At the next LIX networking meeting on April 3rd, our presenter will be realtor, Kerstin Munk.

The LIX Facebook page has taken off like wildfire!  We already have 33 members, a lively group of posts on our 'Wall', photos from Pride, entries on our Discussion Board, and a video link to the recent Ellen Degeneres show where she spoke up as a dyke (finally!) in response to the recent murder of Larry King, a 15-year old gay boy from California who was murdered in an anti-gay hate crime.

If you're interested in joining our LIX Facebook page:

  • first join Facebook by going to www.facebook.com
  • once you're a Facebook member, send me an email (info@girlswanttoknow.com) and ask to join the LIX Facebook group
  • I will invite you be my Facebook 'friend' first (as this is the only way into a group classified as 'secret')
  • once you accept my 'friendship' invitation, I will invite you to join the LIX group.

If you have any trouble joining or negotiating your way on Facebook, contact our official LIX Facebook administrator, Deanne Fountaine, at deannef@gmail.com.  And I'm going to repeat last month's word of caution regarding Facebook...if you choose to join the LIX Facebook group, be aware that the other members of our group WILL be able to check out your personal profile and send you messages.  This could, indeed, be an excellent thing and it's one of the reasons we started this Facebook page...so you could connect with each other more easily.

Anyway....that's it from Pox Central.  I hope to see many of you at the next LIX networking meeting on April 3rd.  Take care.
