'Virginia, Vita and Sissinghurst' - Thursday, May 10th |
A two-hour, live-documentary presentation at
the National Gallery Auditorium at 7:00 pm. This lecture explores
the intertwined lives of the avant-garde novelist/feminist, Virginia
Woolf, and the well-known Sapphist/poet, Vita Sackville West, whose
intimate friendship endured for 20 years. Their childhoods, and
the influences on these extraordinarily gifted women are chronicled
through rare archival images and quotations from their own writings.
After they meet each other, their lives – and work –
become enriched and inspired. When Vita discovers and purchases
Sissinghurst, she begins to create what has become England’s
best loved garden. Sensual, sensitive and evocative, this story
will appeal to lovers of women, art, gardens, and history. Tickets
are $35 and can be purchased by calling (613) 524-1119 or by emailing
